Hilo is a simple card game for one or two players. The idea of the game is to have turned over all of your eight cards, correctly guessing whether they are of a higher or lower value than the previous card. On a players turn, they have the option of either guessing 'higher' or 'lower' for the next card, changing their current card or 'sticking' and ending their turn. A player may make as make guesses as he or she wishes, but in the event of an incorrect guess, all cards previously turned over on that turn will be replaced with new cards. The following is a description of what the buttons do:
  • Higher- Guess that the next card will be higher than the current card
  • Lower- Guess that the next card will be lower than the current card
  • Change- Change the current card (can only be done as the first move in a turn)
  • Stick- End your turn
  • New Game- Start a new game
  • Exit game- Exit to Windows
This game is my first and last Dark Basic program, I would recommend the language to any beginners wanting to learn Basic, as it's the only version of Basic I have seen that is capable of using directx, unfortunately programs seem to run extremely slowly, rendering it of limited use for more processor-intensive software.
